First Year College (FYC) is the "college of options" for students entering NC State University. Established in 1995, FYC has developed a nationally-recognized model for successfully advising students through their first year at the university. From personal, one-on-one academic and career advising to our two-semester orientation course and our living-learning community, FYC provides a comprehensive experience for first year students who want to choose the right major and graduate on time.

Register for FYC NSO
NSO sessions for First Year College students:
- Wednesday, June 26 – Thursday, June 27
- Thursday, June 27 – Friday, June 28
- Monday, July 1 – Tuesday, July 2
- Tuesday, July 2 – Wednesday, July 3
Register to attend an NSO session through your wolfPaw account. All students are required to attend NSO. At NSO, you will meet your FYC academic advisor and register for your fall classes.
Placement Tests
You will be required to take a number of placement tests online prior to New Student Orientation. Your results will help to insure that you are properly placed for a successful start to your NC State career. See requirements and instructions at Placement Testing for First-Year Students. Note: The deadline for completing math and chemistry placement is May 21, 2013.
FYC Pre-NSO Advising Survey coming in mid-May
In mid-May, you will be asked to complete the FYC Pre-NSO Advising Survey. This survey is on-line and its purpose is to provide advance information to your academic advisor so that your 1-on-1 advising time at NSO can be most productive!
