Q: How many students live in Tucker and Owen?
A: Tucker houses 358 students, and Owen houses 376 students.

Q: Am I required to live in the FYC Village (Tucker and Owen Halls)?
A: If you choose to live on campus, you will be placed in the FYC Village when you apply for housing (apply early, though--space is limited!). We instituted this policy in Fall 2007 due to the excellent programs offered and the fact that Village students consistently outperform non-Village students academically. Learn more about applying for housing, housing policies, and exceptions.

Q: Can FYC Village students select a non-FYC roommate as their preferred roommate?
A: First priority for living in the Village goes to FYC students. However, FYC students can select non-FYC students as their roommates in the FYC Village as a preferred roomate on their housing application. Priority will be given to requests in the order received so applying for housing early is essential.

Q: How can I get in touch with my Academic Advisor?
A: Students will meet their advisor at New Student Orientation. The First Year College is located on the 2nd floor of the FYC Commons building, across the street from Tucker and Owen. Students will see their advisor weekly in their USC 101 (Fall semester) and USC 102 (Spring semester) courses, as well as in individual advising appointments.

A: There are 19 RA’s and 10-13 RM’s between the two buildings. Both the RA and the RM help build community, support students’ academic pursuits, and serve as campus and personal resources. These positions are highly competitive and well-respected. The RA and RM return early each semester to participate in paraprofessional training in preparation for the students’ return. RM's serve as Teaching Assistants in select sections of USC 101 and 102 to provide additional support and service to FYC students.

You can find more information about the RM position on the Resident Mentor page.
