Browser Info and Issues

The new FYC web site utilizes Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control all of the visual layout of the site's content. CSS allows for the new FYC web site to look and operate virtually the same regardless of browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) and regardless of platform (e.g., Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.). Another great benefit of CSS is that it allows our site to be very accessible to persons using screen readers or other assistive technologies.

Despite the great benefits of CSS, some people continue to use browsers that were not designed to appropriately handle CSS. If you are using one of the below browser/platform combinations, the new FYC web site will not display correctly.

Problem Browsers:

Netscape 4.78 on a Windows 2000 Professional Platform:
No pages will display even close to correctly because this version of
Netscape simply cannot comprehend CSS.

Internet Explorer 5.2 on a Macintosh OSX 10.3 platform:
Red will show through the header (underneath the the DUAP banner) and the image behind the NCSU logo will not display.

Internet Explorer 5.2 on a Macintosh OSX 10.4 platform:
Red will show through the header (underneath the the DUAP banner) and the image behind the NCSU logo will not display, nor will the
Announcements image (probably because this browser has difficulty with transparency and/or .png files)

Opera 8.5.0 on a Linux Fedora Core 4 platform:
The search bar is elongated in this browser to the point where it overlaps into the main content div container (running into the Announcements image)

If you have questions, comments, or concerns about using the new FYC web site or improving its accessibility and usability, please contact Matthew Rust, FYC Adviser.
