"Assessment is the systematic collection, review, and use of information about educational programs undertaken for the purpose of improving student learning and development." (Palomba and Banta, 1999)
Since its inception in 1995, FYC has used assessment to demonstrate program effectiveness, enhance student learning and development, and drive improvement. Through assessment, we are able to gauge how effective we are in meeting our stated program goals.
Each year, we review and update our assessment plan. Assessment areas include student learning and development, student involvement and connections, student performance, and FYC advising and teaching. A strength of FYC’s assessment program is the use of multiple and varied methods to assess student learning and program outcomes. Analyses include:
The FYC staff reviews the assessment findings and recommends new approaches, resources, or program improvements based on those results.
