Get Involved!
The First Year College Student Council is the representative body for all FYC students. It works towards developing events that create unity for the College, as well as promoting FYC across campus. The Council participates in many events during the year, including academic programs, social activities, and community service projects. At the beginning of each semester the council meets to create the goals for the group and plans are made for the upcoming semester’s social, academic, and service events.
The Student Council has several committees that help plan and implement the ideas and projects that the Council comes up with. These committees are: Liaison, Public Relations, Events, Social, and Service. Each Student Council member has the opportunity to participate in these committees.

Events Committee
The events committee plans fun and exciting events for First Year College students.
Current/future events: movie night, Spring Fling
Service Committee
The purpose of the service committee is to plan and carry out any events decided on by the Council. Service’s projects are more humanitarian based.
Current/future events: Toys for Tots, Houskeeping Appreciation, Hurricane Katrina relief project, Service Raleigh
Social Committee
The social committee plans events and social gatherings for those involved in the Council.
Current/future events: Holiday party, FYCSC movie nights, Valentines Party, Banquet
Public Relations Committee
This committee is responsible for informing current FYC students about upcoming events. We provide our information through flyers, the FYC Student Council web site, and by word of mouth.
Current/future events: Hurricane Katrina relief project (with Service), website updates, bulletin board updates
Liaison Committee
The Liaison Committee records important facts given in each Student Council meeting. After each meeting, the committee takes the information to the Director of the First Year College. They also bring information from the Director back to the Student Council.
Funding Requests:
FYC Student Council at times will support or co-sponsor student groups for various campus initiatives. We give preference to groups that will benefit FYC students in some manner. To request funds, please complete the Funding Request Form. Please also contact the Student Council adviser, Kathy Ziga, at kathy_ziga@ncsu.edu to find out when our next meeting is. Individuals/groups requesting funds must have a representative attend a meeting to request funding.
