Academic Peer Mentoring
In support of the academic mission of NCSU, University Housing and the First Year College (FYC); the FYC Village strives to create a positive and nurturing growth environment for first year students by providing programs, services, facilities, and staff that promote and support student development.
The Resident Mentor (RM) plays a key role in providing a comprehensive program that blends the co-curricular with the academic. The Resident Mentors' overarching purpose is to serve as a model of good academic and social behavior. They do this in a variety of ways.
Overview of responsibilities
- Serve as Teaching Assistants in the USC 101/102 classes: The Resident Mentors support the instructors, add a student perspective during class activities, and provide a peer support in the classroom.
- Serve as student ambassadors to First Year College: Resident Mentors attend several outreach programs such as FYC Visitation Days and Open Houses. They provide parents and potential students a student perspective and share with them the experiences they had as a first year student in the FYC.
- Facilitate academic success and support programming: The Resident Mentors coordinate a variety of programmatic efforts to help our first year students transition into the academic life at NC State.
- Listen to the 07-08 RMs discussing their experiences with this leadership position
Compensation Package Includes:
- Live in Tucker or Owen Hall
- Yearly stipend of $2,000
- Choose your Roommate (not required to live with an FYC student)
- Priority Registration

- Application available at the TOTA front desk

- Application Packets due to the TOTA Desk
- Note: Students will sign up for an interview when they turn in their application to the TOTA front desk
- RM Candidates should participate in Fall Room Sign Up as they would normally regardless of their status in the RM Selection process. All RM's do have roommates (which they are allowed to select)
Monday, February 11th - thursday, February 21st
