February: Relationships
A Day No Pigs Would Die

Activity # 1: (SPEAKING) Divide the class into groups of three. Allow
the groups about ten minutes to find time elements and cultural elements
that place the book in a distinct setting. Share responses at the board,
one point for each correct response, two points for any response that no
other group found.
Activity # 2: (SPEAKING) Assume the role of one of the main or secondary
characters from the novel. Present a one-minute monolog where you reveal
your feelings or perspective on an event in your "life." Dressing
up would add impact to your speech.
Activity # 3: (WRITING) Write a journal page describing the relationship
you have with one of your pets. Does it serve as more of a friend than a
pet at times? If you don't have a pet, describe your ideal pet.
