AMS GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP IN THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE

SPONSORING AGENCY: American Meteorological Society (AMS)

PURPOSE: The American Meteorological Society (AMS) awards a Graduate Fellowship in the History of Science to a student wishing to complete a dissertation on the history of the atmospheric, or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. The goal of the graduate fellowship is to generate a dissertation topic in the history of the atmospheric, or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences, and to foster close working relations between historians and scientists. An effort will be made to place the student into a mentoring relationship with an AMS member at an appropriate institution.

FIELDS: History of Science with the scope described above

ELIGIBILITY: Graduate students in good standing who propose to complete a dissertation on the history of the atmospheric, or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences.

EVALUATION AND SELECTION: The award supports one year of dissertation research. Fellowships cannot be deferred and must be used for the year awarded, but can be used to support research at a location away from the student's institution provided the plan is approved by the student's thesis advisor.

STIPEND: $15,000 for one year
