Fundamentals in Teaching logo

Many graduate students want to learn how to teach, but many of them may not have the opportunity to do so while enrolled in graduate school.  The Fundamentals in Teaching (FIT) workshop series is designed to provide training and support for all graduate students who are interested in learning the basic concepts of teaching. FIT is part of The Graduate School’s Preparing Future Leaders initiative to promote and provide opportunities for graduate students to learn transferable skills to make them more competitive in the global market.

Participants choose a from a list of workshops that meets their professional goals. Workshops are also applicable to postdocs and faculty members who want to learn new information about teaching in the college classroom. Teaching experience is not required, and participants can complete as many workshops as they choose based on their own needs and interests. Workshops are available both online and in person throughout the academic year.

Workshop Registration:
If a workshop is full, sign up for the wait list. More workshops may be added to the schedule depending on demand. Registration is required for all events.

Note: For participants in the CoAT program, all of the FIT workshops can count towards the teaching certificate unless otherwise indicated. CoAT participants receive priority registration for workshops. If you are considering applying to the CoAT program, you may transfer up to three FIT workshops when you complete the application. Contact the Director of Graduate Teaching Programs for more information.
