The dates are set and the events are planned for Greek Week 2009! Greek Week in Raleighwood will run from Thursday, April 16th through Sunday, April 19th with events held at various locations across the NC State campus. The Greek Week Steering Committee, led by Chelsey Core and Dustin Nelson, have put together a great slate of activities that feature traditional favorites like Tug of War and Lip Synch mixed with new events that include a Day of Service and a Greek Chariot Race. The Steering Committee, created after the Greek Week Open Forum in October, was given the task of re-invigorating NC State’s annual fraternity and sorority extravaganza. "Through the Open Forum, Greek Leaders Retreat, and other discussions, we found that many Greek members were dissatisfied with recent Greek Week events and they wanted this year to be different," said Steering Committee Co-Chair Chelsey Core. "We’ve taken all that feedback and tried to create a new model for Greek Week that will encourage more organizations to participate while promoting all the best aspects of Greek membership to the rest of campus.
A major change this year will be the formation of Greek Week Teams, consisting of two, three, or even four different fraternities and sororities, that would then participate in competitive events as a group. "The team idea came directly from feedback at the Greek Week Open Forum as a way to help smaller organizations participate fully while also promoting Greek unity among chapters," said Dustin Nelson, Steering Committee Co-Chair.
