Be an ACTion HERO: The ACTions of Super Successful Student Leaders
By Adam Burke, IFC VP of Programming, and Alyssa Robinson, Graduate Advisor
The Department of Greek Life hosted CAMPUSPEAK’s Justin Jones-Fosu as the keynote speaker for the first annual Greek Emerging Leaders Workshop on Sunday, October 20.
Justin is a prominent, young motivational speaker who has delivered presentations across the country on college campuses and at national conventions. At Greek Life’s Emerging Leaders Workshop, Justin’s presentation focused on the attributes of successful student leaders.
He talked about how to implement the researched H.E.R.O. Leadership Model. According to this model, leaders should be humble, empowering, relational and optimistic.
Justin’s passion for public speaking was shown through his talent to make audience members feel a wide range of emotions during a short period of time. His enthusiasm and humor had the audience clapping, laughing and even dancing. His personal stories had the audience engaging in self-reflection.
“There are people who would love to have your bad days,” Justin said about remembering to be optimistic. He encouraged all of the workshop’s attendees not to sweat the small stuff.
Everything that goes wrong has the ability to be turned into a learning experience. It is the trying circumstances that help people learn to appreciate things when they go right.
The Department of Greek Life hosted the Emerging Leaders Workshop in order to help foster future leaders in the Greek Life Community at NC State. We are thankful for the opportunity to have hosted such a talented and engaging keynote speaker as Justin.
