The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is moving to the Chancellor’s Residence!
The Campaign
Last November, the North Carolina State University Board of Trustees approved the proposal to renovate the current Chancellor’s Residence on Hillsborough Street and construct an adjoining gallery and educational wing that together will become the new Gregg Museum of Art & Design. This $7.5 million project will enable us to achieve goals central to both ARTS NC STATE and the University, which include:
• Transforming the Gregg into one of North Carolina’s finest cultural destinations.
• Joining peer universities—including Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill—that already have visible and accessible stand-alone art museums.
• Connecting the Raleigh and NC State communities by providing many more kinds of programs, from concerts and arts festivals to conferences, outdoor film screenings, and sculpture displays.
• Enriching the profile of NC State by prominently exhibiting and expanding the Gregg’s major collections in ceramics, folk and Native American art, photography, textiles, and furniture.
The Challenge
The Gregg will open in its new location in Spring 2014. We have already secured $3 million from NC State though non-state funds to support this ambitious project. In the next two and a half years, we must raise the remaining $4.5 million—the largest campaign in the history of the arts at NC State—to fund the Residence’s renovation and the construction of a new 16,700 sq. ft. addition, featuring exhibition galleries and teaching spaces.
Reimagine the Gregg Museum
We invite you to be a part of this extraordinary moment in the history of NC State University. Supporters of the new Gregg Museum will guarantee the future of the visual arts on campus and provide an outstanding resource to students and the community for generations to come.
In the coming weeks, we will assemble a list of naming opportunities at the new museum, which will include exhibition galleries, the library, the Gregg sunroom and formal reception room, a reception plaza, a formal garden, and an outdoor sculpture garden. We are also in the process of gathering a Gregg Campaign Committee that will guide our ambitious campaign to its goal.
