Application Materials
Please submit the following documents in applying for GTI Programs

ALL GTI applicants
(except for 3+X programs: 3+X programs click here for application)
(research and internship applicants must submit additional items - see below)
1) Complete the GTI Application and submit it electronically using the button at the end of the application.
2) Submit scanned copies of the following to gti@ncsu.edu.
a) proof of English ability / minimum test scores (submit only one test):
TOEFL - iBT (minimum 68 total points)
- (Previous Computer Version (CBT) (165)
- (Previous Paper Version (PBT) (480)
CET 6 (480)
TSE (45)
TOEIC (600 total and 320 on listening section)
IELTS (5)
Michigan/MELAB (65)
EIKEN (Grade pre-1 or 1)
Note:
In place of one of the above tests GTR-Research students and GTN-Internship students may use a letter from the English Department or Foreign Language English Department at their home university stating their sufficient English ability. GTE and GTC students must submit one of the above tests.
b) most recent school transcript(s) in English
c) proof of financial support (bank statements and/or letters of support)
Note:
If the bank statement is NOT in the applicant's name the person in whose name the bank statement is in should submit a scanned and signed letter stating the money in the bank account will be used to support the applicant while at NC State.
3) Ask two academic references to complete and submit the recommendation forms. GTR and GTN students will use the Faculty Certification (see below) from their NC State faculty as one of their recommendations.
4) Pay the GTI administration fee. |
GTN - Internship Program
Additional materials needed for GTN (full-time internship) applicants only:
1) Complete the training/internship placement plan (DS 7002) together with your NC State faculty host and ask them to submit.
(Student signs, scans and emails a copy of the DS 7002 to GTI. NC State faculty signs an original DS 7002 and gives to GTI. After verifying the student has signed the copy, OIS staff will sign the original DS 7002 that has been signed by the NC State faculty. GTI will send by FedEx this original DS 7002, DS 2019 and acceptance letter. Student will take all these documents with proof of funding to visa appointment. Student will bring original DS 7002 to check-in with GTI staff after arriving in Raleigh.)
2) Submit proof of J-1 Health Insurance.
3) Supervising faculty certification. (to be filled out be the NC State faculty who will be the primary supervisor)

GTR - Research Program
Additional materials needed for GTR (full-time research) applicants only:
1) Complete the plan of research together with your NC State faculty host and submit.
2) Submit proof of J-1 Health Insurance.
3) NC State faculty supervisor completes Faculty Certification of plan of research and submits. |
GTC - Cooperative Education Program
Additional materials needed for GTC (half-time study & half-time research/internship) applicants only:
1) Complete the plan of research together with your NC State faculty host and ask them to submit (if planning to work on-campus in a research position only).
Or
2)
Submit a resume or C.V. (if planning to work in an internship position).

3) Must purchase the Blue student health insurance plan after arrival at NC State (J-1 Health Insurance) |
After the application materials are received, reviewed, and approved, we will send you some important pre-arrival information, a visa certificate (I-20 or DS-2019) and instructions for applying for an F-1 or J-1 visa and other pre-arrival details.
For those accepted into the GTI certificate program (GTE/GTC) you will pay your tuition and fees after your arrival to NC State. Please see "billing and payment options" on the NC State Payroll Office's web site at http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/cashier/students/default.asp#billing for information about how to pay tuition and fees.
For students already in the USA you must fill out the visa clearance form.
