Faculty
Faculty at NC State are often looking for qualified students to participate in their research laboratories or other research efforts. However, at times it is difficult to find a means by which international students can get a visa to be a part of the student body at NC State if they are not already a degree seeking student at NC State. The GTI can help you make that an easier process.
Students participating in the GTI Certificate programs are eligible to take classes and/or do research. The options available are:
1) Certificate in US Culture and Higher Education
(academic option)
This certificate focuses on coursework in a given field of study. It enables students to take 3-4 courses (in addition to the required GTI 401) in a given field. (depending on space, time, permissions from professors and prerequisite requirements)
2) Certificate in US Culture and Cooperative Education
(internship/research option)
This certificate focuses on half-time coursework and half-time research or an internship. Participants are allowed the same access to their field of study as option #1 students, but take fewer classes (usually 1-2 courses in addition to the GTI 401) and do either a paid or unpaid internship with a North Carolina business or research with an NC State faculty. The student may spend up to 20 hours a week in their research or internship role.
3) Research Student
(full-time research)
We are now offering a full-time short-term research option. This allows students at all levels to perform research at NC State under the direction of an NC State faculty memeber for 2-6 months. More information can be found on the research page of the GTI web site.
