Internships
As part of our Certificate Programs the GTI offers a Certificate in US Culture and Cooperative Education (GTC). This is an exciting new endeavor for NC State which benefits international students, NC State faculty and North Carolina businesses.
In cooperation with the NC State Cooperative Education Program we place select international students in research and internship positions inside and outside of the university.
This gives students a chance to work with some of the best researchers in their fields, faculty a chance to move their research forward with quality research assistants and businesses a chance to develop important contacts around the world.
A recent study at NC State showed that mentored instruction is the most effective means of improving a student's ability in a given field. Internships and research opportunities can provide that mentored relationship.
This is a full-time semester length program where students take at least 6 credit hours of classes (3 hours of which must be the GTI 401 course) and 6 credit hours of cooperative education (which equals 20 hours of research or internship work per week).
(This option is only for those students on a J-1 visa. They must be supported by an educational, governmental, industrial or other institutional entity or their institution must have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NC State University. Apply early for the GTC program as these positions are limited and competitive. Internships and research positions can be either paid or unpaid. If you are a faculty or NC business, please contact the GTI offices to be an official hosting site.)
