Did
you know that:
- 64%
of Americans read in the bathroom?
-
a dog’s noise is so sensitive that it can tell
the difference between a tub of water and a tub of
water with a teaspoon of salt in it?
-
the Puritans loaded the Mayflower with more beer than
they did water?
You
probably didn’t, and perhaps you may say, “So
what!” But did you know that most NC State students:
-
have between 0-4 alcoholic drinks when they party?
-
do not drive while intoxicated?
-
make sure to eat a meal or snack before drinking alcohol?
-
support the enforcement of the legal age restriction
on alcohol?
Now
you may be saying, “Say what?”
It’s true. We often have the misperception that
college students consume alcohol and other drugs more
often than they actually do. That’s why we often
find such statistics hard to believe. The purpose of
NC State’s Amazing Facts campaign is to spread
the word on actual alcohol use and attitudes. (To see
examples of the campaign click here). It’s amazing
that spreading such facts can actually reduce alcohol
use on college campuses. It’s even more amazing
that we often more readily accept, say, the fact that
more people are killed at the beach each year by falling
vending machines than from shark attack than the fact
that most college students haven’t have five or
more drinks in one sitting within the last 14 days! |
