Most NC State students average
0-3 drinks per week.

Online Alcohol Education Required for Incoming Students

Accessible beginning July 15, 2009

Research indicates that the average student comes to college with a drinking history.(1) A vast majority of first-year North Carolina State University students have had at least one drink in the past year, and 38% of first year students drank on at least one occassion within two weeks of being surveyed.(2)

Given the statistics, NC State University requires all first year students under the age of 21 to complete AlcoholEdu for College. Completion of the program is required for spring semester registration. This two-part, online, science-based course provides detailed information about alcohol and its effects on the body and mind. Its goal is to help students make well-informed decisions about alcohol and to help them cope with some peers’ drinking behaviors.
