Health Promotion offers alcohol and other drug prevention and education services to students, and in some cases to the larger NC State and Raleigh communities. Following are some of the services offered:
Mandatory Alcohol Education – AlcoholEDU
- AlcoholEdu for College is required for all incoming students under age 21. Information on accessing the program will be available in July.
- AlcoholEdu for Sanctions is required for most students who receive an alcohol-related violation through the Office of Student Conduct and University Housing.
- Any student, however, can take AlcoholEdu. Please contact Chris Austin to gain an access code to complete the program!
Mandatory Drug Education
Most students who receive a marijuana sanction are required to attend the university’s Drug Education Program. For more information contact Chris Austin.
Social Norms Campaign
While alcohol consumption at NC State is significant, the rate of consumption is not as high as most people think - most NC State students consume 0-3 drinks per week! We provide a social norms campaign to reduce this misperception as research indicates that when students more accurately perceive the actual drinking rates, alcohol use decreases among the student population.
NC State CAMPUS Community Coalition
The CAMPUS Community Coalition addresses alcohol and other drug-related issues concerning students on and off campus. Anyone interested may attend. Meetings are typically the first Monday of the month from noon-1:30PM in the Student Health Center room 2301.
Alcohol and Other Drug Education
Health Promotion offers various alcohol and other drug presentations for any campus group, class, etc. interested. We also offer lesson plans for those wishing to provide such programming as well. Of particular interest are the topics of binge drinking and alcohol poisoning.
Screening and Other Programming
Students who wish to assess their alcohol and other drug use can receive a screening through Health Promotion. Health Promotion also offers individualized tobacco cessation sessions as well as house the 90-96 Drug Education Program which is taught by staff from SouthLight, Inc.’s court services.
Questions concerning any programming? Contact Chris Austin.
