| While
alcohol is the most widely used drug at NC State, like other higher
education institutions and the United States population at large,
some students choose to use illegal drugs as well as misuse and abuse
legal substances. However, a vast majority of NC State students, as
well as the general population, choose not to. Sometimes that seems
like a well-kept secret. It bears repeating: Most people choose
not to use illegal drugs or misuse/abuse legal substances.
Here’s the reality (1):
- 72% of NC State students did not use marijuana within the last
year
- 99% reported never using steroids
- 98% have never used heroin
- 96% have never used inhalants
- 94% have never used sedatives (downers, ludes)
- 93% have never used hallucinogens like LSD and PCP
- 93% have never used designer drugs (ecstasy, MDMA)
- 94% have never used cocaine (crack, rock, freebase)
- 90% have never used amphetamines (diet pills, speed)
