Fast Food

Fast food is often associated with fat -- and not without reason!

  • A McDonald's hamburger contains 9 fat grams and 260 calories. Thirty-one percent of its calories is made of fat, and this is about the best burger choice of any fast-food place.
  • A Big Mac has 560 calories, 31 grams of fat for a 50% fat calorie make up.
Burger King's Whopper figures are 640 calories, 39 grams of fat, and 55%.

Fast food restaurants that offer fried chicken have many high-fat choices too.

  • Hardee's fried chicken leg has 170 calories and 7 grams of fat. Fat comprises 35% of the total calories.
  • The figures for KFC's roast chicken thigh without the skin are 106 calories, 6 grams of fat, 47%!

What can you eat?
A good rule to follow is the 30% fat rule. Look for menu items in which fat calorie content is 30% or less. You'll be surprised that you do have many choices.
