young said, “Procrastination is the thief
of time.” We are all guilty of putting things off for
another day. Unfortunately, this tactic has stressful consequences.
Most frequently students miss sleep, eat poorly, snap at others for
no reason, lose concentration, and ultimately end up falling behind.
Tips to Avoid Procrastinating
- Set priorities. Pick one major project to focus on.
- Break the task into small, manageable pieces for a more polished
result.
- Set up a timeline that identifies specific goals and stick
to it.
- Take one step at a time in a reasonable sequence.
- Reward yourself right away when you accomplish a small goal.
- Learn how to use time to your advantage. Be realistic about
how long it takes you to complete a task so you do not feel rushed.
It is always better to over estimate the time needed to complete
the task.
- Optimize your chances for success by selecting conditions that
work best for you to complete the task. For example, stay home
on a Friday when everyone else is out and turn off the phone and
instant messaging.
- Start the task or project as soon as ideas come to mind. You
can always go back and improve on it later.
- Review what you have accomplished regularly and where you are
headed.
- Know your limits and strengths. These are assets in completing
a project on time and avoiding procrastination.
