Dr. James R. Knowles

     Teaching Assistant Professor
Jim Knowles grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He received his B.A. in English from Davidson College and his Ph.D. in English from Duke University. Between those two degrees, he worked for ten years as a book editor and as communications director for a nonprofit research organization. A specialist in medieval and renaissance literature, Professor Knowles has taught courses in those areas at NC State since 2010. He is also involved in the emerging field of Digital Humanities at NC State, serving as project manager for the Piers Plowman Electronic Archive. He lives in Durham with his two boys and their cat.
