| Q.
What happens if my GPA falls below the 3.25
minimum? |
A.
|
You
have access to all aspects of the program
as long as you continue to meet academic
requirements for participation. While you
maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher
and continue to make progress toward your
required hours of Honors coursework you remain
in good standing with the UHP.
If
your cumulative GPA falls below 3.25 but
remains above a 3.00 you will be placed on
probation and have one semester (Fall or
Spring) to regain a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
If at the end of that semester you have not
achieved an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher
you will no longer be able to participate
in the UHP. If your cumulative GPA falls
below a 3.00 you are no longer eligible for
participation in the UHP. If, however, you
subsequently raise your GPA to a 3.25 or
better you may apply for readmission to the
UHP. This application must include a practical
plan of study with a realistic goal for Honors
graduation and appropriate coursework for
your degree program.

| Q.
How does priority registration work? Where
do I get my PIN?
|
A.
|
Honors students are permitted to register for
classes before other students at the
university. An email is sent each semester
indicating the date and time that early
registration will become available. You
must meet with your academic adviser
in your department to receive your PIN
number. Most advisers require an appointment.
Sign up early!

|
| Q.
I tried to register today, and it said that
I am not eligible? |
A.
|
There could be several reasons. Please call
Mrs. Russell at 513-4078 so that she
can help to locate the problem.

|
| Q.
I was uncoded because I didn't sign up for
any honors classes this semester. Does that
mean that I can't register early as well?
|
A.
|
Uncoded
students lose early preregistration privileges
and are no longer considered part of the UHP.
Students
must take one or more H-sections or HON seminars,
a regular course section contracted for Honors
Credit (contract must be on file in UHP Office)
and/or HON 298 until their requirements for
the program are completed.
Exceptions:
- Waiver
Form on file (Student must complete a waiver
form to be excused for that semester)
- Study
Aboard
- CO-OP
- Medical

| Q.
My schedule is full and I can't fit in one
of the required Honors courses. What can I
do?
|
| |
Speak
with your UHP Advisor to see about a waiver
of the requirement for that semester.

|
| Q.
How many times can I request a waiver form
from taking a "H" course?
|
| |
Students
can not have 2 consecutive waivers unless
special approval is giving by their Honors
Advisor.
[back

|
| Q.
I took a contract for Honors Credit and my "H" isn't
showing up why?
|
| |
There
are a couple reasons why this may occur.
It could be that we have not received the
grade report back from your instructor or
it is possible that the Records and Registration
has not completed processing the paperwork
for the "H" to appear (allow 1-2
weeks for the process to complete).
Please
contact Mrs. Russell to see exactly what
step in processing your grade is currently
at
to find out what needs to be done next.

|
| Q.
I am an incoming freshman. How do I apply to
the Honors Program?
|
| |
Admission
to the NC State UHP is not automatic. Students
are invited to make application to the program
based on several academic criteria, including
class rank, high school weighted and unweighted
grade point averages, and SAT scores (typically
1300 or better). A letter of invitation,
along with information about the program
and an application, is mailed to a select
group of students after they have been admitted
to the university.
If
you have been admitted to NC State and have
not yet heard from us and you are interested
in making application, please call the UHP
Office at 919.513.4078 to request an application
be sent to you.

| Q.
I am planning to transfer to NC State and am
interested in joining the Honors Program. Can
I join, and if so, how?
|
| |
The
NC State UHP is geared towards new freshmen
and sophomore students, as many of required
Honors seminars are applied toward NC State
General Education Requirements (GERs).
In
addition to the UHP (the University-wide
Honors Program), NC State also has many departmental
and College Honors programs as well. Depending
on your status related to GER completion,
major, etc. the College or Departmental Honors
program may be a better option for you at
NC State.
Each
program has their own entry and completion
requirements. Contact your College and/or
Department for more information.
