Responsibilities
of the University Honors Council
The
University Honors Council is responsible for overseeing the
development and operation of the Honors Program and for recommending
to the Provost policies to enhance academic excellence among
undergraduates at North Carolina State University.
Specifically,
the Council will
- advise
the Provost, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs,
and the Director of Honors on policy matters and assist the
Director of Honors in the operations of the UHP;
- advise
the Provost, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs,
and the Director of the UHP on policy matters and assist
the Director of the UHP in the operations of honors-related
activities, including but not limited to national scholarship
competitions,
undergraduate enrichment and research support, and other
activities for the support and encouragement of undergraduate
academic excellence;
- advise
the University Courses and Curricula Committee on the UHP
curricular matters, including allocation of GER credit for
Honors Seminars, organization of Honors Research courses,
and content and requirements of the UHP;
- advise
the various colleges, departments, and divisions on developing
and improving disciplinary honors programs;
- make
appropriate recommendations and sponsor other activities
concerning standards for honor societies, honors recognition
ceremonies, and all other activities at NC State University
regarding support for and recognition of academic excellence;
- make
such recommendations to the Provost, the Vice Provost for
Undergraduate Affairs, and the Director of the UHP
as are appropriate for enhancing the work of the UHP;
and
- sponsor
the annual Honors Convocation (Honors Baccalaureate and Celebration
of Academic Excellence).
