Honors Village Fellows
Honors Village Fellows (HVF) will serve the important role of assisting first year residents of the Honors Village in the transition to university life. HVFs will be supervised jointly by the UHP Assistant Director and the Quad and Honors Village Community Director.
Purpose
The HVFs will assist students in their transition from high school to university life through mentoring and building community among residents of the Honors Village. An HVF will serve as a peer resource, helping mentees to better understand university services and programs, and to maximize available opportunities for student success.
Selection Process
Members of the UHP and University Housing staff will serve as the selection committee to interview applicants for the position.
Qualifications
- Member of the UHP in good standing (minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA or better; demonstrated regular progress toward completion of Honors Program requirements)
- Will have completed one year in a residence hall setting
- Will have completed 30 credit hours at NC State by Fall semester
- Ability to move in early to participate in the Honors Village Staff Training and Freshman Transition Program (CORE)
- Good judicial standing
- Capable of working independently
- Possess strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate a knowledge of campus resources and services
- Have an interest in guiding freshmen in the transition to college life
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement activities to complement and fulfill the mission of the Honors Program
- Participate as a facilitator in the Freshman Transition Program during the weekend prior to the start of Fall semester classes.
- Attend weekly staff meetings with the Honors Program Assistant Director
- Partner with Resident Assistants and other HVFs on Hall Programs
- Serve as a resource to freshmen students and support student success
- Meet one-on-one with mentees within the first 3 weeks of the academic year
- Serve as moderator of Clark After Hours
- Connect with mentees regularly through formal and informal activity
- Organize and participate in activities that help acclimate students to NC State
- Assist with program assessment
Training & Support
- Fellows Training Session
- Meet with Honors and Housing staff
- In-service training sessions throughout the academic year
- Fellows will be provided with materials on mentoring
