The UHP focuses on the multitude of ways that humans have sought new information, new meaning, and new purpose in their lives.

We recruit and provide programmatic support for a diverse group of nationally outstanding students, ensuring that they benefit fully from the resources of a major land-grant, research university and the Research Triangle by emphasizing inquiry-, creativity-, and discovery-based learning.

The UHP mission informs our program objectives:

• To form an Honors learning community that you will find intellectually rigorous and personally and culturally enriching; one that will foster your learning and discovery through independent and collaborative inquiry and will support your research and analysis of ideas.
• To prepare you for admission to and success within graduate and professional schools in the United States and abroad.
• To challenge you to connect the classroom with the larger world by broadening your social and cultural experiences and promoting civic responsibility.
• To support your efforts—through mentoring, travel, and supplies—when presenting work at undergraduate research symposia.
• To provide opportunities for you to become a distinguished professional, social, cultural, and civic leader who, in turn, is highly supportive of your alma mater.
