E.S. King Village is an apartment community that serves NC State's married, graduate and non-traditional undergraduate population. Within its diverse multicultural environment, community and convenience combine to nurture academic success and provide for the needs of both students and families. Studio, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom apartments are available.
E.S. King Village is available to juniors, seniors, graduate students, students with families, post-doctoral students, visiting faculty and scholars.

Included with the price of rent is basic cable television, high-speed Internet service, water, sewage, recycling & trash pickup. Studio aparment rental includes gas in addition to the above. The University assumes cost for interior telephone wiring and jack repair, if needed, through the E.S. King Village Office.
Rent payments are due on the first of each month. Rent payment after the fifth of the month are considered late and residents will be assessed a late fee.
Please Note: A security deposit equal to one month's rent will be due at the lease signing. Assignments and apartment reservations will only be made once we have received a security deposit. Rental rates are subject to change.
Eligibility
To be eligible for housing in E.S. King Village, you or at least one member of your family must be a full-time student (as described in the following information).
- UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS must be enrolled for a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours.
- GRADUATE STUDENTS must meet at least one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled for a minimum of nine (9) credit hours; (b) hold a one-half time University assistantship and be enrolled for a minimum of six (6) credit hours; or (c) hold a University assistantship appointment with a service obligation greater than one-half but not more than three-quarter time and be enrolled in GR-598, GR-590 or GR-597, GR-697, or GR-698 and be pursuing the degree objective on a full-time basis.
- The above minimum hourly requirements apply to both the Fall and Spring semesters. Occupants enrolled for the Spring semester who are scholastically eligible for readmission in the Fall semester and who have properly preregistered for the Fall semester are not required to enroll during the summer sessions in order to continue occupancy of their apartment during the summer.
- A new assignment beginning during summer session requires enrollment for at least one course for three (3) credits and, unless occupancy is terminated earlier, full-time enrollment for both Fall and Spring semesters.
- POST DOCTORAL STUDENTS, VISITING FACULTY AND SCHOLARS must provide documentation from hosting Department or program.
Schools for Children
School-age children attend Davis Drive Elementary/Middle School, Martin Middle School and Athens Drive High School. For further information about the public schools or magnet school programs, call the Wake County Public School System at 919-850-1600. Their office is located at 3600 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.
Child Care
E.S. King Village does not provide day care facilities for children. Please consult the yellow pages to locate suitable child care services.
Programs and Events
The Village is governed by a Village Council. This council, with new elections every year, provides leadership opportunities to all residents of the Village. The council concerns itself with all issues regarding Quality of Life, rents and fees, and programs that you as a resident would like to see occur. All you need to do is voice your opinion. You are encouraged to assume a leadership role in order to strengthen your existing skills and develop new ones.
The Village Council, along with the E.S. King Village staff and partners, proudly maintains a high level of programs and events for all residents of the Village. These include such programs as North Carolina State University Adjustment, English as a Second Language, Time Management, Crisis Management, Sewing, Self Defense, Child Find Registration, Operation I.D., Garden Days, Holiday Celebrations, It's your Birthday, Bicycle Registration, and a host of seasonal and spontaneous events.
Other Considerations
Listed below are some of the rental terms and regulations you may wish to consider before making your housing decision:
- Per NC State law, all University facilities, including the apartments at E.S. King Village are smoke free. This includes any the breezways and stairwells. Smoking is prohibited within 25 feet of any building.
- University-owned appliances and fixtures may not be removed from E.S. King Village to provide space for personal items.
- On-site parking is available to residents for a fee. The University requires that residents display a parking decal on all automotive and other vehicles (including bicycles at no charge).
- Pets other than fish are not permitted (20 gal tank limit).
- No exterior TV, CB or FM antennas are allowed.
- Washers and dryers are not allowed inside the apartment unit.
