Centennial Campus Housing Update
Posted: September 28, 2012

Wolf Ridge at Centennial, located adjacent to the new Hunt Library, is quickly taking shape.
University Housing’s Centennial Campus Housing Project, Wolf Ridge at Centennial, is quickly taking shape. As of late September, all the site utilities had been installed including water, sewer, storm drainage, power, and more. In addition, all the building slabs have been poured and we are “going vertical” with steel and concrete on all six buildings. We have started framing interior walls and installing plumbing and HVAC in Tower Hall and Lakeview Hall which open fall 2013. “We’re really happy with the progress so far,” said Pete Fraccaroli, facilities manager for Campus Life. “We’ve got great contractors and architects, and the project is moving along on schedule.” By the end of November, we anticipate completing the skeletons of the two primary buildings.
While our construction team has been moving along at a rapid pace, Housing has been working in the background to create a Model Apartment that gives students a sense of apartment layout and size. Adjacent to the Centennial Campus Central Utility Plan, the Model Apartment is an exact replica of a four bedroom apartment unit. The model, which opened its doors on October 1, is available for touring. We encourage students, staff, faculty, and groups to make an appointment to visit the Model Apartment. You can schedule an appointment online with our Google calendar
An important piece of this project has been student involvement and engagement. When visiting the Model Apartment, students are asked to provide feedback to help tailor some of our furnishings and choices to meet the needs of those living in the new community. As well, students voted and decided on the Wolf Ridge logo. During the past few months, we have gathered feedback from students on furniture options for the apartments. Vendors have set up furniture displays at several locations across campus allowing students to provide input. University Housing may be managing this project – but students are an integral part of its success.
Behind the scenes, we are also actively working to secure Silver LEED status for the project. LEED certification, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a verification that a building, home, or community was designed and built using strategies such as sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Wolf Ridge will be the first University Housing building on campus to be LEED certified. Tim Blair, Associate Director for University Apartments commented, “University Housing is state-of-the-art in so many ways, and we want our buildings to reflect that. It’s great that Wolf Ridge will be a living laboratory where we can implement the sustainable techniques that we are teaching students.”
During the next several months, expect to see many updates regarding Wolf Ridge at Centennial! To stay up-to-date on the project, be sure to visit ncsu.edu/housing/go/wolfridge.
