Insurance Information

If you're wondering whether to invest in additional property insurance for your student's belongings, please consider the following:

  • NC State University does not endorse any individual insurance program, but does encourage parents and students to make sure they have the protection they desire for student property.

  • Section XIII Liability of the Residence Hall Agreement states: “The University shall assume no responsibility for the loss, damage or theft of personal property belonging to, or in the custody of, the student for any cause whatsoever, whether such losses occur in student rooms, public areas or elsewhere in housing. Students are encouraged to carry personal property insurance.”

  • Section IX Letter A Liability of the Wolf Village Agreement: Although security precautions are taken, the University does not assume any legal obligation to pay for, prevent or insure against injury to person(s) (including death), or loss or damage to items of personal property by fire, theft or other casualty which occurs in Wolf Village or on its grounds prior to, during, or subsequent to the period of this Agreement. Students are encouraged to carry appropriate insurance to cover such losses.

  • You may have homeowners insurance; however, not all homeowner’s policies cover everything students bring to school. Most will provide some coverage, but have limitations on certain property. You should check with your insurance agent to determine what is and what is not covered under your policy and what the deductibles are for property away from your principal residence.

Following are URLs for two nation-wide companies that provide student personal property insurance plans for your review should you wish to compare costs and coverage. NC State does not recommend any particular company; the following is provided solely as a starting point if you want to look into personal property insurance.

Important Housing Rules

For a full list of Housing Rules, Procedures and Policies, go here.
For Wolf Village Community Standards, go here.

Drug Rule

University Housing has zero tolerance for illegal drug use in any campus residential facility. Possession of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia etc, is in direct violation of our residential community standards. Alleged drug violations will normally result in interim eviction and students will be responsible for the room cost during the interim eviction.  Any resident found guilty of possession or use of illegal drugs will normally be evicted from University Housing and will be responsible for payment of the entire semester’s room rent.

University Housing Alcohol Container Rule

Collection or display of alcohol containers will not be permitted in student rooms or suites. Students of legal drinking age who choose to consume alcohol must dispose of their containers in a timely and appropriate manner.

Student Health Information

Residence hall life places students in close contact with each other. Consequently certain immunizations are required to minimize the risk of acquiring certain diseases. Information about NC STATE immunization requirements can be found here.

Although not required by the University, the American College Health Association also recommends that college students consider vaccination for meningococcal meningitis to reduce the risk of meningococcal disease. Please visit the Student Health Center Web site to learn more.
