What are the benefits of living on campus?
Living on campus means being at the center of everything – right in the heart of NC State. The dining halls, library, convenience stores, and student centers are only a stone’s throwfrom your residence hall. And, there’s more!

What is a Living and Learning Village?
University Housing offers 13 living and learning villages as opportunities for students to engage in active and collaborative learning with peers, faculty and staff. The Living and Learning Villages, partnerships between University Housing and academic departments, were created to help cultivate residents’ passions ranging from science and education to engineering and the arts. The Villages excel in helping students integrate classroom learning with real-world, hands-on experience.
A Village is a place where:
- people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives live, work, and learn together;
- students, faculty, and staff interact frequently, both formally and informally;
- students feel supported as members of a community;
- partnerships drive planning, implementing, learning, and teaching; and
- programs and services act as a magnet for all members of the University community.

Are there freshmen-only or upper-class only buildings?
There are no all-freshmen residence halls. Incoming freshmen may choose from 19 residence halls. Watauga Hall is available to students with sophomore status and above. The apartments - Wolf Ridge, Wolf Village, E.S. King Village and Western Manor - are available to upperclass students, transfer students and more. Who is eligible to live in on-campus apartments?
Wolf Ridge and Wolf Village are exciting apartment complexes for NC State juniors, seniors, and graduate students. E.S. King Village is a vibrant apartment community that serves NC State's married, graduate and non-traditional undergraduate population. Western Manor is a quiet, academic-oriented apartment complex serving the needs of upper classmen and NC State faculty and staff. Upperclassmen, transfers, graduate students and some faculty/staff may live in the apartments. Check the individual apartments pages for eligibility information.

Where can I review the Housing Agreements?
The Housing Agreements are always online for your convenience.
When are the charges sent to the Cashier’s Office?
The academic year costs are billed by term. Fall term charges are forwarded to the Cashier’s Office in early July; spring term charges are forwarded mid-November. Termination charges and damage charges are sent on a daily basis as appropriate. Rates are subject to change annually. Payments must be made in accordance with University Cashier’s Office deadlines.
How are room assignments made?
Room assignments are made based on the date the Housing Applications are received. The computer program compares your personal preferences with your preferred building choices and matches you with other students. If your first hall choice is full, we continue to the second and third choices. The earlier you apply for housing, the more likely you will receive one of your building choices.
When will I be notified about my room assignment?
Completed room assignments for incoming freshmen will typically be available for viewing in May. You will receive an email advising you to check your assignment online. The assignment information will include your roommate's contact information. If you do not have a current roommate, one will be assigned prior to the start of school.
How can I ensure that I will be placed with my roommate(s) of choice?
University Housing makes every attempt to assign requested roommates together based on 1) the date the applications are received; 2) the availability of open rooms; and 3) if the roommate requests are mutual. The earlier you submit your application, the better the chance of being paired together.

What if I have an accessibility request?
University Housing is dedicated to providing campus living space for students with disabilities who request ADA-accessible rooms. For more information, please see ADA Accommodations. Once we receive your request for an accessible room, a member of the Housing Assignments office will contact you to learn more or schedule a meeting if necessary.

Yes, all residence halls, apartments and campus buildings are smoke-free.
Are all buildings alcohol-free?
Except for Alexander, Avent Ferry, Bragaw, North, Watauga and the apartments, all residence halls are designated as alcohol-free. Alcohol consumption is only allowed in other residential buildings if residents of the room/apartment are of legal drinking age.
Do students have access to the Internet and cable TV on campus?
Internet
Each resident's room is equipped with Residential Network (ResNet) service. ResNet is the university network that connects the student to the Internet and is faster than most cable and broadband connections. ResNet is a mandatory charge and in addition to the cost of housing.
Wireless availability is becoming more prevalent in public areas on campus. All residential buildings include at least one wireless "hotspot", usually in a lounge or lobby. A large number of other campus buildings are also wireless such as the student centers and dining facilities as are numerous outside meeting spaces.
Cable
Cable is an optional service in the residence halls and is billed separately from housing. Please visit the ComTech Web site for more information. Check the individual apartment pages to learn about cable options in the apartments.
A loftable bed is a bed with height options. The bed may be placed at the traditional bed height or raised to allow for storage or study space beneath the sleeping area. ALL University Housing residence halls come with loftable furniture. There is no need to buy a lofting kit.
Can I see a residence hall room before deciding which one to request?
University Housing has a model room in Owen Hall, which is a corridor-style residence hall. Students are able to view the model room as part of the daily tours sponsored by Joyner Visitor Center. Are the residence halls open during scheduled breaks?
All residence halls will close during the Thanksgiving holiday, winter break and spring break. See holiday closings for detailed information. Wolf Village Apartments do not close during breaks.
What is the process to cancel the application/assignment?
Visit MyPack Portal for information on how to cancel your application/assignment. For questions about the process, you should contact the Housing Assignments office by phone at (919) 515-2440 or by email.
How do I request a room change?
If you want to change rooms, first complete The Room Change Request form located on the Housing Self-Service Page via MyPack Portal. Just click on the room change link and follow the instructions.
After the start of the fall term, all room change requests are sent to your Residence Director who will discuss your options with you. You will be notified by email if the request is approved. Please be sure to read and follow all instructions. For questions about the process, you should contact the Housing Assignments office by phone at (919) 515-2440 or by email.
Who is responsible for campus and fire safety?
Campus safety is a shared responsibility. University Housing partners with University Police and Campus Fire Protection to educate and inform residents about safety issues. Some common sense things to remember are: always keep your room locked; never let someone you do not know into the building; always travel at night in groups, using lit paths. Additional safety information can be found at the University Police and Fire Protection websites.
Each residential building is equipped with state-of-the art smoke detection and fire suppression systems that are linked to the University Police office.
Does the University insure student belongings?
The university does not insure residents’ belongings. Check to see if your parents’ homeowner’s insurance will cover your belongings at school. Property Insurance and Renter’s Insurance is also available from most insurance companies.
Where should I go if I am sick?
The Student Health Center is located at the corner of Cates Avenue and Dan Allen Drive. Check out the Student Health Center website for services and hours.
How do I find out about campus clubs and organizations?
There are over 500 student clubs and organizations at NC State. Check the Student Organization Resource Center Web page for more information on campus groups.
How can I stay informed about what is going on?
We update the Housing website continuously, so check it often for important information, dates, and deadlines. You may also check the university calendar and WolfBytes on the campus TV station.
