Each year University Housing employs 18 Residence Directors. We feel that our position is unique since you are directly responsible for developing a holistic sense of community within a residence hall or apartment complex. Many compare our position to an entry-level Residence Director role. We look for staff members who are capable of taking on this challenge and are ready to see what they are learning in the classroom come to life. When you leave after your time with us, you will be prepared to sell your experience, above and beyond the typical housing graduate assistantship.
Residence Directors are responsible for the selection, training and supervision of a team of Resident Advisors; administrative operations; student leadership development; programming; advising a Hall Council; facilities management; budgeting; assessment; serving as a student conduct hearing officer; and will contribute in various University Housing committee roles. We offer 10-month positions in the residence halls and 12-month positions in the apartments. Summer employment opportunities are available for those on 10-month employment agreements. This is a mandatory live-in position which includes a rent-free furnished apartment (including cable television, internet, voicemail, and local phone service) and a meal stipend of $1,100 in the fall and $800 in the spring.
Compensation and Benefits
- $8,500 annual stipend for 10-month positions or $11,300 annual stipend for 12-month positions.

- Reserved parking, but the cost of the parking permit is paid fully by the employee.

To be considered for this graduate assistantship candidates must apply and be admitted to the Graduate School. Preference is given to candidates admitted to the Higher Education Administration or the Counselor Education – College Counseling graduate degree programs. As key leaders within our department, we seek candidates who adapt to a changing decentralized environment, apply their skills and knowledge to a diverse residence hall environment and develop effective working relationships.

Candidates must have a completed application on-file with the Graduate School to be invited for either interview weekend. Employment applications are accepted until all of our Residence Director positions are filled. Initial application review will begin Jan. 2, 2014.
Timeline of Our Process
After we receive your application, cover letter, résumé and list of three references, our selection committee will review your application and we will determine your eligibility for an on-campus interview. If an on-campus interview is granted, candidates should plan to visit Raleigh, N.C. during Higher Education Visitation Weekend in February or the University Housing Interview Weekend in March. We provide lodging and meals, but do not supply a travel reimbursement for the interview.
Pending hiring conversations after candidate interviews on campus, we make offers on a rolling basis. These decisions are contingent on a candidate's acceptance into graduate school. We also take into account an individual's fit with our department and different positions. Our current search seeks to fill 10 positions for the 2014 - 2015 Academic Year.
