Property Insurance
If you're wondering whether to invest in additional property insurance for your belongings, please consider the following:
- NC State University does not endorse any individual insurance program, but does encourage parents and residents to make sure they have the protection they desire for student property.
- Section XII Liability of the Residence Hall Agreement states: "The University has no responsibility for the loss, damage or theft of personal property belonging to, or in, the custody of the student for any cause whatsoever, whether such losses occur in student rooms, public areas or elsewhere in Housing. Students are encouraged to carry personal property insurance".
- Section X. Miscellaneous of the Wolf Village Agreement: states "The University has no legal obligation to pay for, prevent or insure against injury to person(s) (including death), or loss or damage to items of personal property by fire, theft or another casualty which occurs in Wolf Village or on its grounds prior to, during, or subsequent to the period of this Agreement. Students are encouraged to carry appropriate insurance to cover such losses".
- You may have homeowners insurance; however, not all homeowner's policies cover everything students bring to school. Most will provide some coverage, but have limitations on certain property. You should check with your insurance agent to determine what is and what is not covered under your policy and what the deductibles are for property away from your principal residence.
