Residence Director Graduate Assistantship Opportunities

Thank you for considering University Housing as your future employer! Our department prides itself on providing excellent opportunities for our Residence Directors to truly make a positive impact on the lives of our students. Each year University Housing employs 18 Residence Directors. We feel that our position is unique due to the fact that you are directly responsible for developing a holistic sense of community within a residence hall or apartment complex. Many compare our position to an entry-level Residence Director role. We look for staff who are capable of taking on this challenge and are ready to see what they are learning in the classroom come to life. When you leave after your time with us, you will be prepared to sell your experience, above and beyond the typical housing graduate assistantship.
Residence Directors are responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of a team of Resident Advisors; administrative operations; student leadership development; programming; advising a Hall Council; facilities management; budgeting; assessment; serving as a student conduct hearing officer; and will contribute in various University Housing committee roles.
We offer ten-month positions in the residence halls and twelve-month positions in the apartments. Summer employment opportunities are available for those on ten-month employment agreements. This is a mandatory live-in position which includes a rent-free furnished apartment (including cable television, internet, voicemail, and local phone service) and a meal stipend of $800 per semester during the term of your contract.
Compensation and Benefits
- $8,250 annual stipend for ten-month positions.
- $11,050 annual stipend for twelve-month positions.
- Tuition remission, excluding required student fees.
- Use of a private office with a networked computer.
- Health insurance plan
- Reserved parking, but the cost of the parking permit is paid fully by the employee.
- Professional development funding, contingent on budgetary limitations.
In order to be considered for this graduate assistantship candidates must apply and be admitted to the Graduate School. Preference is given to candidates admitted to the "Higher Education Administration" or the "College Counseling and Student Development" graduate degree programs. As key leaders within our department, we seek candidates who are able to adapt to a changing decentralized environment, apply their skills and knowledge to a diverse residence hall environment, and are able to develop effective working relationships.
Application Process
- Submit a completed application packet to both the Graduate School and to either of our preferred academic departments, by the published deadline.
- Submit a Residence Director online application for our position.
- Submit a cover letter and a résumé which includes the names, titles, institutions, and contact information for three references as an attachment via email to uhgradselection@lists.ncsu.edu.

Timeline of Our Process

We provide lodging and meals, but do not supply a travel reimbursement for the interview.
