Mail & Packages
US Postal mail and parcels for the residence halls is delivered daily Monday through Friday (except holidays and student breaks) to one location at the NC State Campus Mail Center. Mail and packages are then distributed throughout the University and to the residence halls. Given the volume of mail and packages, the priority is to deliver first class mail each weekday to the residence hall mailrooms for distribution to resident mailboxes. Parcels are then delivered to the appropriate 24-Hours Service Desk where the packages are logged in and the student is notified by email. Depending on the volume of parcels, there may be a one or two day delay in delivery to the appropriate 24-Hour Service Desk.
The US Post Office delivers mail directly to Wolf Village, ES King Village and Western Manor Apartment complexes.
Important: Packages that need to be delivered quickly to the student should be sent via another carrier such as FedEx or UPS as they deliver directly to the appropriate service desk where the package is logged and student is notified by email.
Outgoing US mail placed in the US mail slot located near the residence hall mailboxes is picked up daily, but it may take up to 24-48 hours to leave the University. For quicker service, you may want to utilize the US Post Office across from the University just off Hillsborough Street at 10 Horne Street. Drop off boxes are also located near Poe Hall and Harrelson Hall. Stamps are also available for sale in some residential building lobbies, near 24 Hour Service Desks and at the bookstore.
How to send mail to NC State residents
There have been several changes in the way the US Postal Service handles mail at NC State. As a result, there have been a few changes in the way mail is addressed. To avoid delays, there are two addresses that you need to know depending on whether you use the US mail or a package delivery service like FedEx or UPS.
The XXXX is where you include your mailbox number. Placement of the mailbox number anywhere else may delay delivery of your mail. Please do not use the terms “Campus Box”, “PO Box”, “Box”, etc. in the address. Doing so will cause a delay in receiving your mail.

To update your address, go to the MyPack Portal and log in, then select Contact Information under the Personal Information header. University Housing is responsible for forwarding US mail for the residence halls and Wolf Village apartments. Housing will use your corresponding address listed in Contact Information to forward your mail.
If you live in Western Manor or ES King Village apartments, it is your responsibility to change your address with the US Postal Service and the University. Pick up a US Postal Service Change-of-Address Card at your Area 24-Hour Service Desk. The card must be filled out, signed and placed in the US Mail.Suspicious Parcel Awareness and Handling
Because of recent national and international events, we must take certain precautionary measures when handling mail to ensure our personal and community safety. Your increased awareness and use of the following precautions with suspicious mail will help us maintain a safe and secure campus. Postal inspectors have found that the following characteristics may identify suspicious parcels:
- Unexpected or from someone unfamiliar to you.
- Addressed to someone no longer with your organization or otherwise outdated (e.g., improper title).
- No return address, or one that cannot be verified as legitimate.
- Of unusual weight, given its size, or lopsided.
- Marked with restrictive endorsements, such as "Personal" or "Confidential."
- Protruding wires, strange odors or stains.
- A city or state in the postmark that doesn't match the return address.
If you receive a suspicious parcel in the mail:
- Do not try to open the parcel; they are usually designed to withstand handling while in the mail and to explode when opened or when an item is removed.
- Set the parcel aside.
- Call Campus Police (911 from a campus phone or 515-3000 from a cell phone) for additional instructions.
If you open a parcel that appears to be contaminated:
- Do not move the parcel and call Campus Police (911 from a campus phone or 515-3000 from a cell phone).
