Contact: Matt Woodward
What: The Issues and Ideas Committee will be hosting an event showcasing Angela Davis and her thoughts on Civil Rights, with historical references to the past connecting us to the present.
Where: Stewart Theater, North Carolina State University
When: September 17th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
Who: Angela Davis: Social Equality Activist, Author, and Professor
Why: The Issues and Ideas Committee feels it is important to bring Angela Davis to campus to shed light on the social injustices of the day. Davis’s life experiences and teachings can challenge and engage anyone of any background. Her courage during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1970’s has transcended the decades and influenced many. She has dedicated her efforts advocating for social issues inclusive of race, gender, and economic circumstance. Those in attendance will be exposed to an activist whose scholarship has impacted both individuals and societies consistently throughout the years.
How: This event is free, no RSVP required. Doors promptly open at 6:30 p.m. Persons with disabilities who desire any assistive devices, services, or other accommodations to participate in this program should contact Rick Gardner, Associate Director of Campus Activities, at (919) 515-5161, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to discuss accommodations prior to the event.
The Issues and Ideas Committee provides students with an open forum for learning about social issues that are either foreign or domestic in nature.
