Loft Options

Understanding the need for students to personalize their living environments, University Housing permits approved loft-style designs in specific residence halls. Residents have the option of either leasing a pre-existing metal loft, or building a wooden loft structure.

Lofts for Lease

Residents can lease durable steel lofts from NC State's Inter-Residence Council for an entire academic year while living on campus. Assembly takes less than 10 minutes and requires no tools. Because these lofts are not made of wood, they don’t have to be inspected by the Fire Protection Division of Public Safety.

Wooden Lofts

Please Note: Lofts are NOT allowed in the following residential facilities due to the loftable nature of the existing furniture:

Residents may go to their RA or 24-hour service desk to check out a rubber mallet in order to adjust the height of their bed.

For more specific information regarding building specifications and deadlines, please review the NC State Wooden Structures - Lofts policy. To speak with a University Housing Facilities representative, call (919) 515-3040.
