Bicycles

If you bring a bicycle to campus, be sure to secure it to one of the designated exterior bike racks with a high security U-bolt lock. Bicycles may not be stored in halls, stairwells, breezeways, or other common areas, because they can be potential obstacles during building evacuations. Bikes can be stored in a resident’s room provided it is not an obstacle to evacuating in the event of an emergency. Bicycles that are blocking egress will immediately be removed by the Fire Marshall.

All students are strongly encouraged to register their bicycles with NCSU Transportation. Bicycle registration deters crime and is an aid in the identification of lost and stolen bicycles. When you register your bicycle, the NCSU Transportation Office will send you a registration sticker in the mail. The Transportation Office will enter your information into a database, so that if your bike is stolen and recovered by the police, it will be quickly returned to you. As an added deterrent to bicycle theft, Campus Police can engrave your driver's license number on your bike free of charge.

At the end of the school year, please remove your bicycle from the bike rack and take it with you. Transportation will tag bicycles left behind with a notification that if the bicycle is not claimed within 14 days, the bike will be considered abandoned and will be removed by Transportation. As an additional resource, a brochure offering safety tips and a map of bicycle rack locations throughout campus is available from NCSU Transportation, Box 7221, Raleigh NC, 27695-7221 or call (919) 515-3424.
