Engineering Village is an exciting new Living and Learning Village exclusively for first year students passionate about engineering! Through a unique collaboration between the College of Engineering and University Housing, Engineering Village provides personal, professional, and leadership development opportunities for residents.
Engineering Village also amplifies First Year Engineering goals by introducing students to the field of engineering, encouraging thoughtful consideration of complex challenges facing our world, connecting academic and career goals, and challenging residents to become leaders and active contributors to society. Village life also encourages future engineers to become actively engaged in the university, their discipline, and develop skills and talents necessary to become successful professionals in a supportive environment.
Life in Engineering Village
Living
- Live in a suite-style environment in Metcalf Residence Hall dedicated to First Year Engineering students passionate about engineering, leadership and service
- Develop lasting friendships, in a positive, team-oriented environment
- Build a supportive network of like-minded students, mentors, faculty and staff members
- Enjoy close proximity to computer labs, Career Development Center, D.H. Hill Library, multimedia classrooms, Study Abroad Office, Carmichael Gymnasium, and Talley Student Center
- Dedicated Resident Advisor (RA), who is a current engineering upper class student, offering programming that complements and enhances the First Year Engineering experience
- Engineering Ambassadors (EA) serve as upper-class mentors and support the transition to university life and the College of Engineering
- Experience an environment promoting and reflecting a diversity of academic interests and viewpoints.
Learning
- Scheduled for a specific section of E101: Engineering & Problem Solving and E115: Computing Environments, both 1 credit hour courses fulfilling engineering degree requirements
- Engineering Ambassadors (EA) serve as Teaching Assistants (TA) for E101: Introduction to Engineering & Problem Solving
- Professional, career, and leadership development with opportunities to apply for scholarships toward undergraduate research, international experiences, internships / co-ops, involvement with student organizations, and externships
- Academic support in the form of tutoring, study groups, and mentoring
- General Academic Advising onsite; interaction with engineering faculty members in and out of the classroom
- Engage in campus programs, activities, orientations, and trips with an engineering focus
- Engineering-related magazines and correspondence (e.g., ASEE PRISM, NAE Grand Challenges, and Go For It!)
- Participate in social and cultural events, as well as other fun activities!
Village Requirements
- Attend the Engineering Village fall orientation.
- Engage in at least 12 Village-related activities per semester.
- Maintain enrollment in the First Year Engineering courses (E101 and E115), and be model citizen-resident in your community.
- Abide by the Student Code of Conduct, University Housing Rules and Community Standards and remain in good academic standing.
