Who's Eligible?

Families not eligible for Medicaid but whose income is not sufficient to afford rising health insurance premiums may be able to receive free or reduced-price comprehensive health care for their children through the North Carolina Health Choice for Children (NCHC) program. This plan, which took effect in October 1998, includes the same benefits as the State Health Plan, plus vision, hearing and dental benefits (following the same guidelines as Medicaid).

What Are the Benefits?

Children enrolled in North Carolina Health Choice for Children (NCHC) are eligible for benefits including sick visits, check-ups, hospital care, counseling, prescriptions, dental care, eye exams and glasses, hearing exams and hearing aids and much more.

How Do I Apply?

Enrollment in NCHC is easy. Complete the NCHC Application (pdf) and submit it to the Department of Social Services in the county where you live. For assistance with completing the application, or information about where to locate your county's office, contact the NC Family Health Resource Line at 1-800-367-2229. (TTY for hearing impaired: 1-800-976-1922).
