Health Plan and NCFlex Benefits (dental, vision, etc.)
Dependent children must be added within 30 days of the date of birth or placement to avoid any coverage issues. The birth date/placement date will be listed as the first day of coverage for the child. Premiums are paid on a pre-pay basis (paid one month ahead) so you may have a double deduction for one month.
Coverage changes are done through the State Health Plan/NCFlex online enrollment system with qualifying life events. Such events are defined as birth, death, divorce, now eligible for other coverage, loss of other coverage, adoption, etc. Coverage changes are effective the first day of the month following the date of the life event EXCEPT for a birth life event. Coverage is effective on the date of birth.
Staff and faculty can access this online system by going go to the MyPack Portal and logging in. Once logged in, click on FOR FACULTY & STAFF at the top in the black bar. In the center of the page, you will see Employee Self Service. Click on "Enroll in Benefits" and you will be logged in to the online enrollment system. At the far left, under the QuickLinks, click on "eEnroll-Click Here to Enroll". This will put you into the online enrollment system. Once in the online enrollment system, click on "Benefits" and then "View/Edit Information" by each benefit that you want to make changes to.

Leave of Absence Guidelines
Taking time off from work for birth, adoption, or foster care may be covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act, maternity leave, or sick leave policies. While on active payroll during a leave of absence, all benefit premiums continue through payroll deduction.
If a portion or all of a leave of absence will be without pay, contact your Benefits Consultant immediately to discuss benefit premium payment options.
