NC State employees work hard and need time to relax, socialize, exercise and enjoy life. NC State offers many recreational outlets for fun and fitness.

Campus Recreation

The mission of Campus Recreation is to provide diverse opportunities for the campus community of NC State University and to expand the knowledge of and participation in recreational activities, which foster healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership. NC State faculty and staff have access to many programs from intramural sports, group fitness classes and outdoor adventures including camping, hiking, workshops and group travel. Classes, workshops, travel and equipment rental is often at no charge or available for a nominal fee. Faculty and staff who wish to participate in Campus Recreation programs must first have a Carmichael Gym membership. Visit the Campus Recreation web site for program and participation details. Carmichael Gymnasium

The 330,000-square-foot, air-conditioned Carmichael gymnasium provides students, faculty, and staff with one of the finest physical education/recreational facilities in the country. The Carmichael Gymnasium complex includes outdoor fields, tennis courts, swimming pool, racquetball courts and weight rooms. Members may participate in fitness classes and other activities. Employees can join for as little as $180.00 per year and pay by convenient monthly payroll deduction. For more information, contact a Membership Services representative at 513-3684.

Key Haven

Kerr Lake Outdoor Recreation Area is a gated, wooded peninsula on Kerr Lake, one hour north of Raleigh that provides opportunities for camping, picnicking, boating, swimming, and fishing for a nominal fee. For maps, keys, and information, contact Tuck Schneider in Polk Hall, Room 4 (phone 513-2847). Keys may be obtained for a nominal, annual fee plus deposit and can be requested through campus mail or picked up in person. It's best to call ahead to make arrangements for key pick-up. University Club

The University Club was dedicated in 1965 and serves NC State faculty, staff and alumni. The University Club's mission is to promote, develop and carry on recreational, social, entertainment, and amusement activities for members, their families and guests. All resident full-time and adjunct faculty, staff, students, alumni, and University Affiliates of NC State are eligible to join the University Club.
