Training that is required by an employer is always considered work time whether or not it occurs during regular work hours. Training that is related to an employee's current duties may be considered work time even if participation is voluntary, provided it is approved by the employer and occurs during regular working hours.
Training which is not related to an employee's current duties but which is approved by the employer and occurs during regular working hours may be paid time (under the Educational Leave Policy). However, it would not be considered work time for the purpose of determining overtime.
