When UTS employees “go permanent” in campus positions, we consider this an indication of our successful ability to identifying and place skilled, motivated employees.

Here are a few personal stories from UTS employees over the past few years. . .

I held several positions with UTS until I became permanently employed with NC STATE. UTS placed me in positions where my skills were put to use. I have gained other skills through the assignments UTS has placed me that made me eligible for the current position I am in. I have received several letters of recommendation from these assignments that helped me tremendously when I was searching for a permanent position. Many, many thanks to UTS!

During my week in a temp assignment, I had the fortune to meet very nice people and indeed learned of a vacancy for which I applied and would never have been referred by HR as my application "read" all wrong for that job. However the supervisor, having had the chance to see my disposition, work ethic and potential, said she would ask HR to forward my application to her. It was a great blessing for me when she hired me and to this day, I am happy to say that I have this job and hopefully am good at it! I certainly enjoy working here.

For nineteen years I worked at a major research university in the northeast and left regretfully when my family moved to Raleigh. I wanted to find another position in a university, so I decided to work as a temp at NC State until I found something I liked. UTS placed me in a position substituting for a staff member who was on sick leave, and I immediately liked the department. Another position for which I was qualified opened up here, and the department head invited me to apply. The friendly working environment in this department was just what I was hoping to find. The experience as a temp helped me in several ways: I heard about a job just as it was being advertised; people in charge of hiring had first-hand experience with me and approached me about a position; I learned NC State policies and procedures so that when I started my permanent position, I already had a solid foundation.

I had been out of the work force for several years so when I applied to work as a temp at NC State, UTS tested my computer knowledge and skills. Shortly after, I was placed in a temporary position within the Department of Communication. Luckily for me, the position became permanent, I applied for it and they offered the position to me. Because of this experience, I have had the opportunity to attend classes to update my software skills. My experience has been most enjoyable and rewarding -- and it all started as a temp!
