e know you have a lot of ideas to help improve our state, and we want to capture the best and put them into action. That’s why we’re creating the Emerging Issues Commons.

At the 2012 Emerging Issues Forum, we previewed our first prototype of the Ideas Table and the online Ideas Hub software that we’ll use in the Commons.  Keep in mind, this is just a prototype, so there will be new designs, new functionality, and some other top-secret additions before you see this up and running, but we wanted to give you a sneak peek into how one of the tools in the Emerging Issues Commons will work.

The IEI Commons Ideas Hub is designed for you to collaborate with others who are also invested in the future of North Carolina,  both in the physical Commons space and online with people across the state.  The tools allows you to brainstorm new ideas for solving North Carolina most difficult challenges in each of the areas IEI works on – economy, the natural and built environments, education and health.

When you visit the website, for each challenge listed, you will likely see a handful – or more! – of ideas for how to address these issues.  These ideas come from your fellow North Carolinians, and you are free to add as many of your own ideas as you want.  But be prepared: we will be asking our web visitors to rate each of these ideas in terms of how effective, viable, and innovative it is.  The best ideas will rise to the top, and then we can collectively find ways that we can turn these ideas into action for North Carolina.

No state has empowered its citizens with these kinds of tools to create new opportunities and set it on a path for success. We hope you’re up to the challenge.

Help invest in North Carolina’s future by making a gift to help the Emerging Issues Commons a reality. Visit our Support IEI section and contact Maura Conyngham for more details on the Legacy in Action campaign.
