Information Technology Audit
As we all know, business and communications processes are now heavily automated and there is an ever-increasing reliance on Information Technology (IT) in all aspects of most organizations around the world. In addition, IT systems tend to represent a considerable budgetary commitment for most businesses and institutions. As a result, Information Technology (IT) auditing has evolved as a rapidly growing specialization within most Internal Audit teams.
Recognizing that campus IT systems are a significant and ever-changing building block of the business and academic life at the University, IA chose to divide the existing human resources into two departments: creating the new IT Audit Department and officially establishing the original function as the Operational Audit Department.
The IT Department, now over a year “old,” continues to develop new and strengthen existing relationships with the IT, academic, and business communities across campus. Our goal is to ensure University assets and data are properly protected, the risks inherent to our IT systems have been properly assessed and are controlled with suitable internal controls, and that appropriate management oversight and governance activities are in place.
