Accessibile Computing @ NC State

In order to achieve the university's mission to serve all its students and the people of North Carolina, including those with a disability, ITD's Microsys Team and Computing Services Team deliver and maintain assistive technology identified by Disability Services Office in student labs.

The following Windows-based assistive technologies are available in the student labs and other units via “Wolfprep” kit and the Novell application launcher and Mac-based assistive technologies via a Mac Image.

  • JAWS, a screen reader from Freedom Scientific (Windows)
  • MAGic, a screen magnification program (Windows)
  • The “video intercept” base driver Freedom Scientific to allow users to run JAWS or Magic from a flash drive
  • IBM Home Page Reader (Windows)
  • Windows Accessibility Utilities, accessibility resources and utilities build into operating system (Windows)
  • Kurzweil 3000, scanning, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities or reading difficulties (Windows and Mac)
  • Read & Write, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities (Windows and Mac)

In addition, Computing Services also maintains an accessible workstation in all public computing labs.

Assistive Technology Center at DH Hill Library and the Disability Service Office,also provide a range of assistive devices and technologies to facilitate access to computers.
