About NC State Antivirus Resources:
The Office of Information Technology is pleased to provide free antivirus protection to all students, faculty and staff of NC State University. Our antivirus effort has reduced the number and severity of virus outbreaks on campus. The primary components of this effort:
- Campus-wide antivirus requirements
Each computer connected to the campus network must have an University-approved antivirus program installed and kept up-to-date. For more details, see University Antivirus Requirements.
- New antivirus software provided regularly
As it becomes available, new antivirus software and step-by-step installation instructions for various operating systems are distributed free of charge.
- Central antivirus software distribution
Antivirus software is distributed through the main campus antivirus site or by departmental IT personnel. You can download free antivirus now from our website, or contact a member of your IT staff for assistance.
- Easy updating
Managed versions of the software and dedicated servers make it quick and easy to update your virus definitions.
- Email scanning for viruses
All email to campus addresses is screened with PureMessage. Virus-infected messages are automatically deleted from the system.
- Ongoing support
The NC State Help Desk provides antivirus support (for the University-provided Symantec software only). For additional help, see the Frequently Asked Questions.
