alternate approved antivirus products NC State supports a managed version of Symantec AntiVirus and offers it as a free download to students, faculty and staff. Alternatively, there are several University-approved antivirus products, listed in the tables below, that you may purchase and use to comply with the University's AntiVirus Software Requirements, provided that you maintain up-to-date virus definitions. There is also a list of antivirus products that are explicitly not approved for use on the campus network.
If the vendor of one of these listed products releases a newer version, it will be considered approved until the next annual review by the University IT Security Subcommittee, not ITD. If a vendor drops support for a listed product before the next review, it will no longer satisfy the University's requirements and will be removed from the list.
NOTE:
ITD does not provide technical support for any of these alternate approved products. It supports only those that are offered as free downloads through the University.

Recommendations for the Alternate Approved List
You can recommend that an antivirus product be added to the alternate approved list by submitting an Approval Request for Additional Antivirus Software. Each June, the committee begins evaluating antivirus products that are on the approved list and will consider others for possible inclusion. At its meeting in August, the committee makes final decisions about products to be included on the list.
