Quick Links:
Windows Vista:
- Make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on the yellow Symantec AntiVirus shield, located in the right-hand portion of your system tray (at the bottom of the screen).

- You will be asked to give permission to open the application. Click Continue.

- In the Symantec console window that opens, double click on the LiveUpdate button.
- The LiveUpdate utility will start. Click on the Next button to begin the update process.

- The virus definitions may take a few minutes to download, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

- When the definitions are completely downloaded, click on the Finish button.
- As LiveUpdate installs the definitions, an Updating Virus Protection Files window will appear. The progress bar will reset itself several times and may take a few moments to finish.

- If this is the first time you have run LiveUpdate after installing Symantec AntiVirus, you may receive an error message error indicating that LiveUpdate was unable to complete the update process. This is normal. Click Yes to run LiveUpdate again.

- When the updating process has finished, the console window should show that the version of the virus definition file is no more than a week old. It may take a few seconds for the new date to appear. New virus definitions are provided by Symantec at least once a week and sometimes daily.
- Close the console window by selecting the Exit button.
