Computing Workstations in Unity Labs

Unity labs are equipped with Windows, Unix and Macintosh workstations. All of them provide access to your Unity network file space, word processing software, Web browsers and a wide variety of other applications. The Web browsers can be used to access the Internet and to check your email at http://webmail.ncsu.edu.

For more help with workstations at NC State, see these individual guides.

Handouts are available in the labs to help you get started, and many more resources are available online at the Computing Essentials Web site.

Getting Online

  • From a Windows or Macintosh workstation:
    1. In the application launcher window, locate the Mozilla icon and double-click on it or
    2. On the desktop, double-click on the Internet Explorer icon.

  • From a Unix workstation:
    1. Move the mouse pointer to the gray background of the screen .
    2. Press the middle mouse button to access the Application menu.
    3. Choose Web Browsers and then Mozilla.

Printing

To print from a Unity lab workstation, you must first purchase print quota from WolfCopy, located in DH Hill Library (building #47 campus map/ central), or from Administrative Services I (building #122 campus map/central) on Sullivan Drive. Please note that print quota is no longer available at Talley Student Center. The minimum purchase is $5, and black and white printing is six cents per sheet, while color printing is $0.60 per sheet.

Logging Out

Remember to always log out of your account when you finish a computing session. If you don't log out, others will have access to your account, file space, print quota and email.

Log out by typing logout at the unity% prompt on a Unix workstation or by clicking on the Logoff icon on the desktop screen for Windows or Macintosh workstations.
